
Grassroots Soccer teaches youth about HIV/AIDS via a series of fun, interactive soccer activities and warm up games. Originally developed for use in sub-Saharan African nations, Grassroots Soccer connects with youth through the world's most popular sport.
Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) and their local counterparts are engaged as “Peace Corps SKILLZ Coaches” to deliver the curriculum in various settings including schools, sports teams, and other youth groups. This Coach’s Guide includes 11 60-minute practices with guidelines for Peace Corps SKILLZ Coaches to adapt the curriculum for their community.
Some of the skill sessions include someone who stands in the middle of a circle (of camp participants). Another camper acts as a defender to protect the one in the middle of the circle. This activity symbolizes the importance of the immune system in our bodies to protect from external threats, like SIDA/HIV.
