Special Needs Video/  لإحتياجات الخاصة بالفيلم

Greetings and Salam 3lekum,

My name is Celestino, and I am a Peace Corps volunteer looking for exceptional Moroccans with special needs to  highlight in a video project. Peace Corps is a volunteer program run by the United States government. The mission of the Peace Corps includes providing technical training and assistance, helping people outside the United States to understand American culture, and helping Americans to understand the cultures of other countries - an exchange of cultures. The work is generally related to social and economic development. One of my roles as a volunteer is a member of the Supporting People with Special Needs committee, a specific group of volunteers dedicated to helping raise awareness about the abilities and accomplishments of people with disabilities.

I have been working with a local counterpart and his film association,
Association Panorama for Movies (Association panorama pour le cinéma/جمعية بانوراما للسينما) in designing the framework for our film project. We have been inspired by the women’s empowerment video project, “You Can Dream” and hope to design a similar video project highlighting 5 to 6 Moroccans with special needs who can share their inspiring stories.

What we need from you:

If you know any exceptional Moroccans with special needs or you yourself would be a great addition to the video please fill out the attached form or respond to this message (you can send an email directly to profcarreon@gmail.com).

We hope to apply for a Peace Corps small grant in order to cover the cost of our transportation. However, in order to receive funding we need a 25% community contribution. Which means we need to ask a lot from our wonderful video participants, not only for you to share your story but to volunteer your time as well. Yet, we wish to remind participants the gift of your story can possibly be the motivation that inspires children throughout Morocco for years to come. We want your story in your own words, be it  Darija, Tamazight, Tashlheet, Tariffit, French, Spanish, English or sign language. We will work with volunteers to translate and caption the video to make sure it is accessible to all. Lastly, this video will be made free to the people of Morocco, via youtube, Vimeo or any other online resource. No profit will be made from this project. Instead, we hope volunteers for years to come will share your story at their local Dar Chabab or Nedi Neswi in order to inspire, foster a sense of community and raise awareness about people with disabilities.

Once we have our video participants we will try to set up a schedule when we can visit you in order to videotape your story.  We hope to begin this project some-time after Ramadan, for more details please fill out the survey or respond directly to this email (profcarreon@gmail.com). Once we have compiled a list we will be in contact regarding the following steps and grant development.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
